Those Seeking Freedom

How to Resist Sin

There is an old story here at L.I.F.E. about a man who asked us in a support group meeting what he should do about resisting sin when another man comes to his door late at night and wants to have sex with him. We said, "Close the door!" It seems funny that we do not think of the obvious but rather feel a lot of conflicting emotions when faced with such a situation. Some people say they don't know what they would do in such a case. We always say that if you don't know what you would do when someone comes to you to tempt you, then your decision is already made for you.

All of us have felt anger and probably continue to feel anger when we are hurt, abused or wronged. There is no doubt that we need to look at this very powerful and potentially deadly emotion and learn how we can deal with it in our lives. The scriptures speak clearly in regard to this emotion and show us how to deal with anger with the purifying power of the truth of God. We see that the scriptures do not expect us never to be angry and even set forth the truth that there is a righteous form of anger.

There it is again! That constant, ever-frustrating question was pounding through every speck of my consciousness. Another day goes by and still it remains unanswered. I just don't understand. How come I can't be 'normal' like my sisters? I have seven sisters and one brother. I'm number eight in the lineup. Never have I heard or seen them express the type of things I feel inside. What's wrong with me? I can't ask them, nor my parents, or anyone. I guess I'll just hold it inside and try never to let it show, but man, it's really killing me...

Working the Emotional Roots of Homosexuality - Part 7

Many people with homosexual desire have settled for things as they seem to be. By this I mean that they have resigned themselves to "being" a certain way or to situations that just won't change. They identify with their sin as though it were who they are. They speak of their failures, sin pattern, ungodly reactions, disposition and moods as though these were unchangeable. To settle means to accept or defend something rather than turning from and renouncing it. Years of painful experiences and unhealthy reactions make it difficult to see beyond the present condition; they feel they can't or won't develop another perspective. Sometimes they become defensive if this is pointed out. They may even reject the counsel you are giving them. This is beyond a passive resignation-this is identification with and justification of a bad viewpoint.

Lust is a desire to have our way regardless of God's truth or another person's will. It is making a person an object to be used and not a person to relate to and learn to love. This ought not to be and we will see, causes very serious consequences.
