Hope that Does Not Disappoint

Hope is the feeling that what is desired is possible and that events may turn out for the best. Or so says the dictionary. But the biblical concept of hope is far beyond this dim and sketchy definition of hope. The hope the Bible speaks of is robust and hearty, being rooted in putting our hope in the Word of God.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope.

God's Opposition to Homosexuality Part 4

In part three of this article we showed that homosexuality is an evil desire. The Bible speaks of homosexual behavior as an objective evil action, in itself repulsive to God no matter what form it takes and no matter how it is rationalized. God's Opposition to Homosexuality Part 3

When the Bible speaks of evil desire it illustrates at least two important principles. First, the object or relationship that is craved (and/or practiced) is objectively evil. The thing for which the person pines is sinful in and of itself. Because a wicked man craves evil he shows no mercy to his neighbor (Prov. 21:10). Harshness, ruthlessness, insensitivity are his delight and goal, and he relates in such a way as to achieve them.

A desire is a strong feeling that drives us to attain or possess something which is, or we think is, within our reach. Evil is the absence of good, that which is sinful, vicious, corrupt, morally wrong and wicked.

For their rock is not our Rock
as even our enemies concede.

Their grapes are filled with poison

Their wine is the venom of serpents,
The deadly poison of cobras.
Deuteronomy 32:31-33

He who is full loathes honey.
But to the hungry even what is
bitter tastes sweet.
Proverbs 27:7

Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil.
Who put darkness for light
And light for darkness.
